Classic Patty Melt
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds Certified Angus Beef ® ground beef, 80% lean
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup white wine (optional)
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 8 slices marble rye bread
- 7-8 ounces Gouda cheese, thinly sliced
- 8 slices Swiss cheese, approximately 1/2-ounce each
Instructions:
- Melt 1-tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium low heat; add sliced onion. Stirring occasionally, slowly cook until onions have caramelized and reached a dark golden brown, about 30 minutes. Increase heat, add white wine and reduce until wine is absorbed, 3 minutes; remove pan from heat.
- Mix Worcestershire into ground beef and divide mixture into four 6-ounce portions, pressing into 1/2-inch thin patties shaped like the bread slices; season with salt and pepper.
- Evenly spread remaining butter on one side of each slice of bread. Lay butter-side down on large cutting board and top half of the slices with Swiss cheese and their mates with Gouda.
